Visitor Hygiene & Safety FAQs

1. What ventilation technology does Koelnmesse use in the halls?

All Koelnmesse exhibition halls are equipped with modern ventilation systems. The supply air is supplied fresh from outside in a duct system that is separate from the exhaust air. The used exhaust air is discharged separately to the outside so that aerosols cannot spread through our ventilation systems.

2. Is contactless payment possible everywhere on the premises?

Contactless payment is possible at all cash desks and shops. Contactless payment is also possible in all stationary catering areas of Koelnmesse using the appropriate cards.

3. Is it possible to buy masks and disinfectants on the exhibition grounds? If so, where?

Admission to the fairgrounds is only permitted with mouth-and-nose protection. Our hostesses will provide visitors and exhibitors with a mouth-and-nose protection at the entrances if they do not have their own.
Additional mouth-and-nose protection masks can be purchased in the Koelnmesse Shops on the exhibition grounds (as well as disinfectants).
However, we recommend all exhibitors to equip themselves with these masks at their stands.

4. Checking the distances on the stand: Will the stand be closed if this is not done?

Trade fair events in times of corona are subject to the Corona Protection Ordinance. According to this regulation, it must be ensured that the minimum distances can be maintained on the exhibition grounds and at the exhibition stands. The organiser Reed Exhibitions Deutschland GmbH is responsible for ensuring compliance on the exhibition site and the stand operator is also responsible for compliance on the stand. Official inspections may be necessary.
In the event of overcrowding of exhibition stands, Reed Exhibitions GmbH or one of its responsible service providers will ask the respective stand operator to limit or regulate the number of people on the stand accordingly. In the event of non-compliance despite advice and requests, further measures may be necessary up to the closure of the stand.

5. Does every person need a personalised identity card?

Yes, all exhibitors, visitors, service providers, Koelnmesse employees, Reed Exhibitions Deutschland GmbH and other partners will receive a personalised ticket or admission pass as part of the registration process.
In principle, every person is already obliged to carry a document proving their identity (e.g. identity card, passport). If necessary, this can be used to compare the personalised ticket and the person.

6. Are visors instead of masks allowed?

The Corona Protection Ordinance provides for a general obligation to wear mouth and nose protection at trade fairs. Mouth and nose protectors can be removed at seating positions (e.g. at the exhibition stand or in the catering trade or outdoors, provided that minimum distances are observed).
According to current medical assessment, full or partial face shields are not a substitute for mouth and nose protectors, as aerosols are only partially retained. Visibility visors are therefore only permitted in tested individual cases (e.g. in the case of demonstrable health problems of the wearer in the case of mouth-nose protection or product presentations that require regular removal and application of the mouth-nose protection on a permanent basis).

7. Should a case occur during the current trade fair, will the trade fair be cancelled?

It cannot be assumed that the current trade fair will be cancelled. The first step would be a traceability check of the contact points. At FIBO, the regulations on spacing and the duty to protect the mouth and nose apply, so if the regulations are complied with, first-degree contact persons according to RKI criteria are not to be expected.

8. Will there be conferences, workshops and lectures at FIBO and where will they be held?

Conferences, workshops and lectures are an essential part of FIBO and will also be offered in 2021. For the protection of all participants we will adjust the seating and number of seats. We will not offer standing room and will determine separate entrances and exits as far as necessary.
Conferences, workshops and lectures will take place on the designated and designed areas in the halls, as well as in separate rooms within the congress centres.

9. Is the temperature measured at the entrance of the visitors/exhibitors?

No, Reed Exhibitions GmbH does not measure the temperature of exhibitors or visitors at the entrance. The general rule of the Corona Protection Ordinance applies, i.e. that it is not permitted to enter the exhibition grounds with relevant symptoms of illness (in particular symptoms of colds, diarrhoea, bad taste). This will be indicated at the entrances and during the online ticketing process.

10. How is it checked whether a visitor/exhibitor has cold symptoms?

The general rule of the Corona Protection Ordinance applies, i.e. that it is not permitted to enter the exhibition grounds with relevant symptoms of illness (in particular cold symptoms, diarrhoea, lack of taste). This is indicated at the entrances.

11. Will there be a medical centre on the exhibition grounds?

Qualified medical care will be available on site during the entire duration of FIBO.

12. Will there be the possibility to carry out Corona rapid tests on the exhibition grounds?

Our partner, Koelnmesse, is currently in intensive talks to establish a rapid test facility. Due to the fact that clarification points are still open throughout Germany, we are currently unable to provide any further information here. If we have any further information, you can find it here.

13. Are meeting rooms allowed on exhibitor stands and if so, what are the requirements?

Meeting rooms may be set up.
As far as seating is concerned, care must be taken to ensure that either the generally applicable distance regulations (1.5m) are observed when sitting or to different seating groups. Alternatively, screens (e.g. screens on tables or screens between tables) can be used if the distances are to be reduced (dimensions: above head height when sitting or standing at standing tables).
The meeting rooms must not be closed at the top if they are also closed at the sides to ensure adequate ventilation.

14. How many people are allowed on a stand per square metre?

The number of people allowed depends on the size of the stand and the individual furnishings of the stand. It is therefore not possible to make a general statement without further ado and is essentially dependent on the freely accessible stand area (view of the stand from above) and the number of available seats in the case of supplementary seats/meeting places.
The maximum number of persons can be calculated roughly on the basis of 1 person per 4 sqm of freely accessible area. Additional seating (e.g. at conference tables) may be available. However, this flat-rate approach may be higher in individual cases due to additional measures (e.g. screening between seats).
Please note that the maximum number of persons on the stand must be regulated by appropriate measures.

15. What minimum distances must be maintained on a stand?

The usual minimum distance regulations apply to persons on the stand. According to these regulations, it must be ensured that a minimum distance of 1.50 m between persons can be maintained.
By taking additional measures (e.g. use of shields such as Plexiglas panels at seats of sufficient height/width), the distances can be reduced to a minimum.

16. Can business cards still be exchanged?

There are no objections to the exchange of business cards, as only two different people are affected. This applies as long as the stand personnel observe regular hand hygiene (e.g. regular hand washing) and visitors are offered disinfection facilities at the stand.

17. Do masks have to be worn on the stand all the time?

For the protection of all trade show participants, there is an obligation to wear masks at FIBO for all persons. Mouth and nose protection can be taken off at seating areas (e.g. at exhibition stands or in the catering trade) or on the outdoor grounds, as long as the rules governing distances from different and unrelated persons (groups) are observed.
At the entrance areas, our hostesses will provide visitors and exhibitors with mouth and nose protection if none is available.
Furthermore, there is the possibility to purchase additional masks (as well as disinfectants) in the Koelnmesse shops on the exhibition grounds. However, we recommend all exhibitors to equip themselves with these masks at their stands.

18. Can sweets be distributed to visitors? Are they also allowed to be displayed at the stand? Do they have to be packed?

Both packaged and unpackaged samples may be distributed. Self-service (e.g. from a tray with several samples) is not permitted, not even in the case of packed samples.

19. Will Meet & Greats take place at FIBO?

There will be Meet & Greats at FIBO. The designated areas will be designed in accordance with the Corona Protection Regulation.
