From Venice and Berlin to Singapore: The ultimate in luxury training environments
Fitness is part of a person’s lifestyle, and this may also be reflected in their selection of a gym. A number of successful studio concepts have drawn international attention. Be it ice chambers, heated outdoor swimming pools, nutritionists or massages – the world's most exclusive fitness studios offer an alluring mix of out-of-this-world atmosphere and countless extras.
Barry’s Bootcamp Venice, USA
Barry’s Bootcamp has grown from its founding in Los Angeles in 1998 to become an institution with fitness studios all over the globe. Barry’s Venice studio – located near the famous boardwalk – is probably the most attractive Barry’s Bootcamp of all. There are almost too many extras to list – including changing rooms with all the mod-cons, a stretch lounge, a coffee bar and a relaxation area known as the ‘Fuel Bar’. Perhaps the most successful feature is Barry’s special combination of cardio and weight-training in its ‘Red Rooms’.
Courses take place at every conceivable time of day, so there really is no good reason anymore to miss a workout.
A boutique fitness studio unlike any other: BeCycle aims to reconcile home and work, body and mind. The stylish studio opened in Berlin in 2016. Cycling courses take place in a darkened room with booming beats, while yoga courses enjoy a calmer setting. BeCycle also offers HIIT and Barre courses, and has even opened its own café serving healthy foods. BeCycle is a place where people can do more than simply train – they can also experience a sense of well-being and spend time there. https://becycle.de
Los Angeles Athletic Club, USA
The club in downtown L.A. is not a conventional fitness studio, but rather an exclusive sports club located in the heart of the West Coast metropolis. The LAAC was established back in 1880, and it was the city’s first private club. Today, highly modern sports and spa facilities, excellent restaurants and bars, a luxurious convention and event location, and hotel rooms are all part of the LAAC. Members can take advantage of a range of daily group courses, such as kickboxing, cycling, yoga, Pilates, squash and tai chi. There is a sports hall for basketball and handball, not to mention a conventional training area. https://laac.com
Equinox Hudson Yards New York City, USA
Today, Equinox not only has a global presence, but has also made a name for itself as a purveyor of luxury fitness. In New York City, the home of Equinox (which also owns SoulCycle), the company opened its one hundredth studio in 2019. And this studio is something else: Equinox Hudson Yards is the first Equinox anywhere in the world with its own hotel. With an area of 60,000 square metres, this is also the biggest Equinox fitness club to date. Members can enjoy the company’s popular courses, extraordinary spa, outdoor rooftop swimming pool, indoor salt-water swimming pool, hot and cold plunge pools, and personalised training programmes that even include private Pilates sessions in a separate studio. . https://www.equinox.com/clubs/new-york/midtown/hudsonyards
Third Space, London
Third Space has locations all over London, but our favourite is the company’s biggest: Canary Wharf. The fitness studio is over 100,000 square metres in size and offers more than 300 group courses every week. In ‘The Yard’, members can take advantage of London’s largest multifunctional training area. The entire facility is almost inconceivably large, and includes not only a 13-metre-high climbing wall, but also a sports swimming pool. At Third Space studios, even service is something out of the ordinary. For example, the studio offers members the option of leaving their fitness clothing in their own locker so that staff can clean it and return it their locker, ready to wear. Talk about luxury...
Members of the Virgin Active fitness club in Tanjong Pagar not only enjoy access to the facility's state-of-the-art fitness equipment and over 200 group courses a week, but can also use the 2,863-square-metre training area. The studio is equipped with ice chambers and altitude chambers, as well as a Himalayan salt chamber in which the temperature and humidity are carefully controlled so that members can clear their respiratory tracts even as they relax. An added bonus: members can use the outdoor infinity swimming pool in the Sofitel Singapore City Centre Hotel located right next door. https://www.virginactive.com.sg/home/our_clubs/tanjong_pagar/club_information.aspx
