FIBO CHINA 2017 with new record participation
Increasing enthusiasm for fitness boosts market’s importance for the industry
More visitors, more brands, more international participants – FIBO CHINA 2017 impressively underscored its significance as the leading fitness trade show in Asia. Some 20,589 visitors from 47 countries – 80 per cent of them trade visitors – attended the fourth edition of the trade show in Shanghai in September to learn. That means the attractiveness of FIBO CHINA increased by 28 per cent in the span of just one year. The exhibitor roster at FIBO CHINA grew as well: a record 131 companies with 300 brands took advantage of the trade show, which is organised jointly by Reed Exhibitions Deutschland and Reed Sinopharm Exhibitions. One in four exhibitors travelled from abroad – an increase of five percentage points.
Big fitness industry names
“These impressive figures validate our internationalisation strategy”, says Hans-Joachim Erbel, CEO of FIBO organiser Reed Exhibitions Deutschland. “Combining our industry know-how and our Chinese partners’ market knowledge, we’ve developed FIBO CHINA into a platform that perfectly matches manufacturers, distributors and users in an exciting growth market.” That assessment is shared by the fitness industry: numerous international players leveraged FIBO CHINA 2017 to do business with top Chinese buyers – including equipment manufacturers such as Technogym, Matrix, Life Fitness, Core Health, Precor, Hoist, Intenza, Sports Art and DHZ Fitness; major providers such as miha Bodytec, JustFit, VisionBody and X-body; and international nutrition specialists such as BioTech USA, Glanbia, Ironmaxx, Labrada, MyProtein, Prosupps, Nutrition Depot, Nutrend and QNT.
80 per cent trade visitors
There are currently about 30,000 fitness clubs in China, and their operators, managers and trainers were highly interested in FIBO CHINA: 80 per cent of show visitors came from the fitness industry – an increase of five percentage points compared to last year. “With that, we can quite rightly say in the fourth year that FIBO CHINA has become firmly established as a fitness industry platform”, says FIBO director Silke Frank. ‘Not just in China but in Asia as a whole.” 1.131 visitors travelled to China from abroad – primarily from Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, Indonesia and India, but also from Saudi Arabia, Russia and the US.
2018: Growth at new location
The show’s skyrocketing popularity has prompted a move to a larger venue next year, the Shanghai National Expo and Congress Center. “The trade show is growing so fast that we literally outgrew the current venue”, says Hu Kunping, managing director of Reed Sinopharm Exhibitions. Along with the move, he says, there’s a good chance that FIBO CHINA will grow even bigger next year. “We’re confident that we’ll be able achieve an increase of 40 per cent. Already, 70 per cent of the exhibition space available in 2018 has been sold because of excellent rebooking results.”
FIBO CHINA 2018 will take place in Shanghai again from 16 to 18 August, this time at the National Expo and Congress Center.
