The time has finally come: after a two-year break due to the pandemic, FIBO opens its doors – and quite appropriately – on 7 April, World Health Day! Under the motto "for a strong and healthy society", the world's leading trade show provides plenty of trends and inspiration for the fitness and health business and thus ensures genuine reunion joy for the entire industry.

See what trends are emerging today, discover new products, shop and train: The world's largest fitness trade show, FIBO, starts on Thursday in Cologne. From 7 to 10 April it gathers key players and up-and-comers, entrepreneurs, experts and trainers, physiotherapists and fitness fans from all over the world. In order to provide a breath of fresh air and new impulses, the hall structure has been completely redesigned. Exhibitors will present exciting products in a total of six halls, supplemented by numerous special areas.

Fitness and active health training are becoming established

9.26 million exercisers in Germany, 56.3 million in Europe: despite two difficult Covid years, fitness and active health training continue to establish themselves in society. No other sport moves so many members. This is also underlined by FIBO, which, as the world's largest trade show for fitness, wellness and health, remains the No. 1 business platform and trend show. More than 500 exhibitors are showcased on an area of 89,000 m², more than half of them, namely 54%, come from abroad.

The fact that the industry is still on the upswing despite the difficult pandemic situation is also underlined by the "European Health & Fitness Market Report 2022". The total number of fitness clubs in Europe increased slightly from 63,059 in 2020 to 63,173 in 2021 (+0.2%).

Premiere: The FIBO Congress

From 7 to 9 April, parallel to FIBO, the first FIBO Congress will take place at Congress-Center Nord, a three-day trade congress for fitness, prevention and health experts. Together with the German University for Prevention and Health Management (DHfPG) and the BSA Academy, FIBO has curated inspiring lectures in exciting thematic blocks.

A variety of highlights at Meetingpoint Health & Wellness

The main point of contact for health matters is the newly designed Hall 8, where visitors will find the Health, Wellness & Spa and Interior sections and names such as schwa-medico, Hansefit, Gantner Electronic GmbH Deutschland, Klafs, M.A.C. Centercom, Novotec Medical, Pino, Sissel/Novacare, Trugge Getränketechnik and Urban Sports Club.

At "Meetingpoint Health & Wellness", renowned experts will provide important impulses. For example, Prof. Dr. Alexander Ferrauti, Head of the Chair of Exercise Science at the Ruhr University in Bochum, will present his research findings on modern exercise basics.

Also very exciting is the press conference at the Symbiont stand (A26). Here, representatives from politics, sports, science and business will discuss current health developments and present initiatives for more and health-oriented exercise. These include the Europe-wide public health campaign #BeActive, the broad-based alliance of experts Allianz für Gesundheit e.V. In addition, the development of healthcare offers for customers will be discussed at the press conference and a pilot project with Porsche Germany will be announced for the first time.

Another highlight in Hall 8 is the convention "The Way to the Health Club" 2022, organised by BVGSD e.V., DFAV e.V. and RehaVitalisPlus e.V. with the support of FIBO and FNG, Fitness News Germany. This four-day event deals with the linking of therapy and fitness. Rehab, corporate health management and prevention concepts will be extensively addressed alongside fitness trainer training.

Another focus is on the trend topic of biohacking. This combines biology with modern technology. The speaker Prof. Dr. Markus Reichert from the eHealth and sports analytics teaching and research department at the Ruhr University Bochum will provide an insight into the current status of research and highlight the possibilities of biohacking in practice.

Experts such as Prof. Dr. David Matusiewicz and Prof. Dr. Markus Reichert will highlight the expectations, possibilities and future prospects of digital health services in their presentations.

In addition, practical experience of the latest yoga and Pilates routines can be gained in the "Body & Mind Area".

Exercise is Medicine Days

Motivating the entire population to exercise more – that is the goal of the "Exercise is Medicine" initiative (EiM). As a member of "Exercise is Medicine Deutschland e.V.", the trade show puts exercise in the focus of the health system, politics and the population. This is because physical activity still plays too small a role in medical practice. A panel consisting of the EiM Germany and Europe initiative, the German Society for Health and Prevention (DGSP) and Europe Active will address this topic on Friday and Saturday in Hall 8.

A digitised fitness world

Hall 6 and 7 with their exhibitors are showcasing an important trend that has been further accelerated by the pandemic: Digitalisation in the fitness industry. In the Future Forum in Hall 7, organised by FIBO in cooperation with FitTech Company GmbH, ECC KÖLN & Europe Active, innovation-driven speakers will discuss the tech-heavy fitness world of tomorrow. Keywords here include artificial intelligence, virtual reality, gamification, Apps and trackers.

Functional Training Forum

Hall 9 is also newly presented and combines functional training and group fitness concepts for trade visitors such as trainers and instructors, wellness experts and gym owners. Here, among other things, the established Functional Forum by IFAA, Bodylife and other partners will be held and the IFAA Trainer Plaza will be offered for the first time.

Nutrition Trend CBD

As a completely new feature, CBD products will be presented in Hall 5.2 as part of the special area THE BODY and advice will be given on areas of application and possibilities. Hall 5.2 will also be the platform for the Lifestyle Area featuring interesting talks, the Group Fitness Stage, various hands-on areas, the Cycling Festival and the eSports and Gaming Area.

FIBO Lifestyle Area in Hall 5.2

The first port of call for fitness experts and consumers is Hall 5.2. The FIBO Lifestyle Area is not only home to exciting talks with celebrities such as Ralf Möller. Here you will find workout trends to try out, fashion innovations to shop for and plenty of motivation for a healthy life. Highlights are the numerous hands-on activities, the Cycling Festival by Pure Emotion, Mixed Reality Sports and much more.

For the first time, there will be the FIBO eSports & Gaming Area, where not only professional coaches from the Gamers Academy will be present, but also the possibility of proper training. Among other things, you can test your cognitive skills on the skills court and get support from a performance coach. On Friday, there will also be a panel on holistic performance. Participants include Prof. Dr. Anna Martin-Niedecken (Sphery AG), Jörg Adami (eSports Player Foundation) and Dr. Markus Dworak (Smart Sleep GmbH).

The strongest men in the world in Hall 10.2

The FIBO Power Strongman Cup will be held for the 8th time this year. Almost 40 athletes from a wide range of nations will be fighting for the top spot on the FIBO weekend. For the German athletes, it's all about promotion to the 1st division of the Pro League.

In the Meet & Greet Area, visitors can expect to meet the scene's heavyweights, including Markus Rühl, Matthias Botthof and Dennis Wolf, during panel discussions and photo sessions. Influencers such as jax.vita, thatsluri, salomeenaa, sarahfranssen, mi chael.smolik and fabientietjen will be on site on both days
