On May 4, 2022, it was that time again: the festive award ceremony of the Wellness Aphrodite could once again take place live. For the 19th time in a row, the Freizeit Verlag awarded the best wellness hotels in the German-speaking region based on the travel portal meintophotel.de and the hotel guide "Mein Tophotel Wellness 2022". FIBO was involved as a trusted partner and sponsor. It was an event of superlatives, where the winners could be seen.

The ballroom of the spa and golf resort Der Öschberghof in tranquil Donauschingen provided a spectacular backdrop for this year's award ceremony, during which the best wellness hotels in the German-speaking world were presented with the Wellness Aphrodite 2022. Host and Hotelier of the Year 2021 Alexander Aisenbrey, Hotel Director of the Öschberghof, was pleased to welcome the approximately 100 invited guests from the hotel industry, politics and supplier industry.

Awards in eight categories

The Wellness Aphrodite 2022 was awarded in a total of eight categories: Wellness Cuisine, Fitness & Sports, Beauty & Treatments, Spa Design, Logis, Spa Personality, Overall Concept and Tradition & Vision. The top-class expert jury included TV chef Christian Henze, Anke Brendt, Product Manager FIBO, Professor Dr. Marco Gardini, Bavarian Center for Tourism and Professor of International Hospitality Management and Marketing at the Faculty of Tourism at Kempten University of Applied Sciences, publishing director Jan Peter Kruse, editor-in-chief of the trade magazine Tophotel Marco Weiß and Jacqueline Schaffrath, head of the hotel guide Meintophotel. From three nominations per category, the winners were chosen in an exciting jury session.

The Öschberghof: Winner of the category Fitness & Sport

The winner of the Fitness & Sport category is Der Öschberghof, which convinced the expert jury with its 550 sqm fitness area with state-of-the-art Technogym equipment, a swimming pool and golf course. "The Selfcare Vital Season supports the resort's guests to eat, sleep and move better consciously and works with professional personal coaches," Anke Brendt explained the decision. Spa and Gym Manager Ayleen Fossé was particularly pleased about the award: "As a trained sports therapist, the connection between spa and gym is very important to me. Spa for me means tranquility, well-being and relaxation. Gym I associate with vitality, health and movement. With the Selfcare Vital Season, we want to combine the two already obvious components even more and show our guests how important their own body awareness is. The change in recent years shows that hotel fitness areas may long cease to consist of just a treadmill, a weight bench and a few weights, but of high-end equipment, a full course program and the best trainers. Whether it's a yoga retreat, functional week or mindfulness days, there's plenty on offer in the hotel industry when it comes to fitness and health."

Spa Personality

The Bio-Balance concept developed by Spa Director of König Ludwig Wellness & Spa Resort Allgäu Sven Huckenbeck already shows an effect on guests after a short time. Through the musculature, the access to the mental state is directly noticeable. Sven Huckenbeck's work as an expert for treatment, movement and biomechanics as well as the development of complex and economically attractive health offers are characterized by extensive management know-how, the everlasting desire for further and advanced training. He is convinced of the importance of physical and mental fitness in the hotel industry: "Physical fitness is essential for our well-being. Muscle training is completely underestimated in its effect on our entire physical and also mental condition. Just as our facial expressions express our emotions, the large muscle chains organized in the fascia network are an expression of our posture: both physical and mental! Self-trackers and sporty gadgets motivate technology fans with movement games, but do not deliver a real body experience - unless it is professionally mediated. Body coaching instead of personal training is an approach that can play a role in the hotel industry. Perceiving one's own body through movement conveys emotions, and for that, mindful body coaching is needed to dissolve areas of tension and regain ease."
